Lumka Phendla

 

Lumka is a hardworking young woman who holds a Bachelor of Laws (“LLB”) degree from the University of Pretoria, undoubtedly, one of the most prestigious universities in South Africa. Lumka was admitted into the Law Society of South Africa as an Attorney. In addition, she completed the Practical Legal Training with the Law Society of South African Law: Legal Education and Development (“LEAD”) and managed to collect three outstanding merits: Legal Cost, Best Leadership, and Leadership. She has over 9 years working experience in the legal fraternity.

 

Currently, as co-founder and Managing Director of a Non-profit Organisation, Domestic Workers’ Empowerment League (“DWEL”) which inter alia mediates grievances between the domestic workers, gardeners, and other informal labours with their employers to obtain amicable solutions for before possible litigation; and provide domestic workers with assistance with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (“CCMA”) processes with the collaboration of other legal entities. She is also the Company Secretary, Legal Counsel, and Senior Business Analyst of Rosebank Capital which is an emerging market-focused advisory and investment banking firm focused on multiple sectors, with strong deal origination, structuring and execution capabilities for small, medium, & large companies, and government at all levels across the Sub-Saharan Africa.

 

As both Managing Director and Company Secretary of DWEL and Rosebank Capital, respectively, Lumka has been responsible for developing and executing business strategies to achieve short and long-term goals; reporting to the board, providing market insights and strategic advice; developing and implementing business plans to improve cost-efficiency; maintaining positive and trust-based relations with business partners, shareholders, and authorities; overseeing the company’s business operations, financial performance, investments, and ventures; supervising, guiding, and delegating executives in their duties; ensuring company policies and legal guidelines are clearly communicated; assessing, managing, and resolving problematic developments and situations; building and enhancing the company’s public profile at various global trade show of networking and matchmaking events.
