Our Energy desk has the capacity to act as Legal Advisers to Individuals, Companies & Multinationals carrying on business in the Oil & Gas sector of the Nigerian, US and Global economy as well as Government agencies such as the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) etc vis-a-viz their regulatory roles in the Oil and Gas Industry.

In Nigeria, we are capable of proffering legal advisory services to the DPR or other classes of clients as regards applications for licenses and permits (e.g. license to operate a drilling rig, license to operate a petrol station or product storage depot, permit to import petroleum products, LPG, guidelines for the establishment of hydrocarbon processing plants etc).

With reference to the business activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, we are adept at proffering highest quality legal advisory services to same and other classes of clients on the NNPC’s upstream, midstream and downstream activities. The NNPC’s upstream activities are in joint partnership with the major multinationals under Joint Operating Agreements (JOA) or Production Sharing Contracts (PSC). We have the capacity to draft and review agreements of this nature and also provide bespoke legal services on negotiating such agreements/contracts. Furthermore, vis-a-viz the NNPC’s role in the management of the Exploration Bidding Rounds for oil and gas, we have the expertise to advise on same.

Because we have a proactive ESP, our Energy desk is also well positioned to provide bespoke legal services under the proposed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) in Nigeria which intends to transform the present NNPC from being a Statutory Corporation into a public company limited by shares under the Companies and Allied Matters Act. The new company will function as a purely commercial business entity.

As regards the Gas sub-sector of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry, we possess considerable experience in this regard. Recently, we were retained as part of a team of Advisers on the financing of the LPG business of a major player in the Nigerian downstream Gas sector. To this end, we can leverage on this and similar experiences in proffering highest quality legal advisory services to the NNPC and other industry players vis-a-viz the Nigerian Gas sector.

We also possess competence and experience as regards legal advisory services in the Power sector. We advised an equity investor on its investment in the Benin DISCO privatization exercise in Nigeria. Recently, we closed on a major divestment deal for the sale of the entire shareholding of a Power Investment Holding Company in Mauritius. Currently, we are part of a team of Advisers to the sponsors of some Independent Power Projects in some states in Nigeria.
